The Carribean region:

The Carribean sea is the largest salt water see in the world, with an area of roughly 1,063,000sq miles. The deepest point is in the Cayman Trough, which is located between Cuba and Jamaica. It is 7,686m below sea level.
The Caribbean Islands, or West Indies as they are often called, are located southeast of North America, East of Central America and North and West of South America. Its area consists of the Caribbean Sea, its Islands and the surrounding coastline. The area has over 7000 islands, islets, reefs & cayes which are divided into twenty-five territories including sovereign states, overseas departments and dependencies.

The West Indies consists of the Antilles, which is divided into the larger Greater Antilles which bound the sea on the north and the Lesser Antilles on the south and the east. The Lesser Antilles includes the Bahamas. Bermuda lies much further to the north in the Atlantic Ocean and is in the West Indies. The West Indies are thought to be a sub region of North America. There are over 30 main islands that are visited by tourists throughout the year.

Climate:

The climate of the Carribean islands varies from region to region. Some of the islands are have flat terrains, like Barbados, the Cayman Islands and Tobago. Other Island have mountain ranges like Cuba, Dominica, Jamaica or St Lucia. The climates range between sub-tropical to tropical depending upon the location in proximity to the winds off of the Atlantic ocean. The Carribean is often subject to hurricanes, which at certain times of the year can devestate the region. They usually occur north of Grenada and West of Barbados, and can devastate large areas of coastline, villiages and towns, some of which take decades to recover.
